Talent Manager

As a Harlands Talent Manager, you will be responsible for helping clients in the North East and beyond to build better businesses. You will be joining Harlands at a very exciting time: although we are a relatively small team of 25+, we are en route to implementing a strategy that ensures Harlands is one of the best places to be.

The role

At Harlands we understand that to exceed our client expectations we must provide high quality advice. However, we also understand our deliveries are only ever successful if we have exciting, energetic and smart people in our business. Our employees need to be ambitious and impatient for success, just like us.

The role of the internal Talent manager it to recruit, onboard, enable and retain employees. This isn't a high-volume recruitment role, we’re aiming to cap our headcount to retain the right level of quality!

This role is about finding the right people at the right time and making their process of onboarding and training as seamless as possible. We want our people to remain with us long term because they feel valued and fully engaged in not just their work, but their career development. ‍

What will I do?

Ideally we’re looking for someone with experience in the areas detailed below. Don’t worry if you can’t tick every box, attitude and willingness to learn are equally important to us:

Recruitment

  • ‍Establishing strategies to promote new jobs to a diverse range of candidates
  • Optimise our existing skills and personality matrix that helps Harlands identify the right employees for the right roles
  • Attend recruitment events and promote Harlands Accountants as a company of choice to candidates‍
  • Identifying and contacting potential future employees
  • Engaging with the individual and understanding their current career path and ambitions
  • Work with local colleges and universities and develop a strategy to attract the best new talent into the organisation

Onboarding

  • Work with management to enhance and develop the onboarding and induction model
  • Work with the internal team to develop a layered onboarding plan
  • Work with new employees within their onboarding period
  • Continuously develop our onboarding methodology
  • Develop a staff retention plan to ensure all the hard work during the recruitment phase isn’t a continuous loop!

Enablement

  • Work with management and internal teams to identify new training and enablement practices
  • Work with employees to design ongoing training plans and schedules
  • Engage with partners to provide continuous training services

Experience and skills

  • 36 months+ of recruitment experience ideally in professional services
  • Experience of working and communicating with accountancy professionals.
  • The ability to connect with and nurture candidates
  • The ability to clearly and quickly articulate yourself to management.
  • You must be energetic, have a positive attitude and communicate well.
  • The ability to adapt your communication style to the individual.
  • Empathetic with good interpersonal skills
  • A highly professional attitude to work.
  • An enthusiastic self-starter with the ability to prioritise your own workload

Alongside monthly 1-2-1s, bi-annual performance reviews, detailed created career pathways and your professional exams, you will receive internal and external support to hone your leadership and people skills.

What else?

Every member of our team is key in executing our exciting yet ambitious growth strategy. Two keyways you would be involved in this:

  • Working groups are a key way for us to implement large projects. You will have the opportunity to chair, project manage or plan key projects alongside your team mates.
  • You will also attend weekly huddles of which the purpose is to share financial and non-financial performance of the business. Some of our company performance measures are Gross Profit, Net Promoter Score, Gross Value Added and New Clients.
